The other night my husband was at a trade show with the company he works for. The company booked him a room at the Trump tower and took him and the other sales guys to dinner at the restaurant there. My husband’s steak alone was $50.
While he was living it up in Vegas, I sat at home by myself and ate a grilled cheese sandwich for dinner. Yup. All. By. Myself. Are you feeling sorry for me yet? I hope so! You should. It was very sad!
So why would I share this sad tale? Truly – my intent is not to make you feel sorry for me. I think it is a good picture however… All too often those of us who are solopreneurs sit in our offices with our grilled cheese sandwiches ALONE! We get stale and stuffy. Our spark begins to dim. We lose site of our goals and direction. We get lonely!
If this is you, I’d like to encourage you to make a point to get out and re-charge. Find your people. Here are a few ways you can do that:
- Find some conferences in your industry. This can be a huge boost to your confidence and productivity. You can meet new people, learn new things, and get some good ideas.
- Facebook groups in your industry. While this isn’t face to face, it can be helpful to be part of a community that shares in your trials and triumphs. It’s a place where you can help others and seek help when you get stuck.
- Local Meetups…same benefits as the above ideas.
I hope this gives you something to chew on… whether it be steak or grilled cheese, you don’t have to go it alone!
Oh and, lest you feel too sorry for me, I did have lunch with a friend that day. And then I had bible study that night. I’ll be ok.
